1 Thessalonians Series
I think there are times when we feel insignificant. We begin to feel that our
lives don’t really matter, or that our church can’t really make an impact or that
our town is too small to be important. Our new sermon series will focus on the
Letters to the Thessalonian churches written by Paul. In these letters Paul
tells them that what they are and who they are matters immensely.
Thessalonica was a strategic town located on a very busy road. People from all
walks of life came through their town and therefore they had an incredible
opportunity to be a launching pad for the gospel. I believe that First
Presbyterian Church, Pascagoula, MS is in a similar place. We are a growing
church located in a town where many people come and go. We have the
unique opportunity to prepare people of all ages and walks of life to take the
gospel and go impact the world. Over the next several weeks we will look at the
unique challenges that faced the church in Thessalonica and how the members
were called to deal with them. From there we will be challenged to embrace the
missional call that God has for us to embrace the gospel as our own and share
it with others in our lives. I hope you will join us in worship or listen online as
we journey through this letter together.

The Path of Gratitude
This week we will begin our yearly Sermon series dealing with all things money… Yes, this is the time of the year when the church goes out and beats the bushes looking to collect all of your hard-earned money so that we can pay the bills and keep the pastor employed. Unfortunately, when many people hear the phrase “Stewardship Campaign” that’s all they envision. Well, we’re out to change that this year. This year we are embarking on a “Gratitude Path” where we will challenged over the next 5 weeks to be grateful for all that God has done for us in our lives. We believe that the majority of Christ’s teaching on giving throughout scripture centers around both joy and gratefulness for all that he has first given us. We also believe that if we will look, not at what we can do for God, but what God has done for us, we will begin to approach this idea of giving in a whole new light. Of course, this will take hard work and maybe even a shift in how we live in order to move from giving out of duty to giving out of gratitude. So my hope is that you will join us this month as we journey down the Gratitude Path. And whether you join us in service or just listen online, I pray that you will be challenged in your response to God through the giving of your time, talent and resources. ~Matt Mitchell

We have a problem in the church...we are afraid to ask questions. We're afraid to ask hard questions or questions that make us look like we're doubting our faith. We know we should know the answer, but we don't, and we feel like a "bad" Christian because of it. This Summer and Fall at First Presbyterian Church we will be going through the "Why?" Series. I asked the church to ask any question they wanted regarding their faith, the church, belief, baptism, anything really. And the questions poured in! In the sermons that follow you will see my answers to some of those questions. If you can't make it to church or are just checking us out online I hope you will enjoy and be blessed by God's word. ~ Matt Mitchell

Galatians Series
If you’ve been with us over the past year you know we have
been knee-deep in the Old Testament book of Judges. We have finally
finished the book and are now turning the page (several of them actually!) to
the New Testament.
Beginning August 17 we will start reading through and studying the book of Galatians together. Galatians is without a doubt many people’s favorite book of the Bible. It clearly defines the gospel and what it is. It spells out for the non-believer how desperately they need Christ. But there’s so much more than that!
In fact, to only think the gospel is for the non-churched or the un-saved is to completely miss the teaching of Apostle Paul to the church in Galatia. Rather than the book of Galatians being the “ABC’s of the Gospel” it’s better defined as the “A to Z of the Christian Life.” We will see that the gospel isn’t something to be responded to once, rather, it is God’s living letter to us that is to be responded to daily as we seek the Lord in all aspects of our lives.
Galatians is about the gospel, which is dynamic and powerful, and something that we all so desperately need in our lives that are filled to the brim with hectic schedules, painful relationships, the reality of our sin and other difficulties we carry through our lives.
I hope you’ll join us in this journey and you’ll commit to engage the book of Galatians on your own as well.
